Kinesiology department brings state-of-the-art anatomical tables to classrooms

As you walk inside a medical school, you may see students using state-of-the-art anatomical tables to observe functions of the human body. Now, NMSU kinesiology students also get to engage with various parts of the body using the same kind of tables.

The department recently purchased four anatomical tables for students to use with funding received from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund that will allow students to engage with a 3D model of the human body.

“Technology in health sciences has advanced significantly to allow students to participate in labs utilizing virtual cadavers, which permit students to make dissection cuts and learn by doing,” says Kim O’Connell, athletic training program director and interim co-department head of kinesiology.

The tables allow for virtual engagement with bones, nerves and layer-by-layer dissection.

As the anatomical tables are introduced into the new classroom learning style, the kinesiology department also hopes to enhance student engagement and retention by introducing the tables into more courses.
