Data Science and Application Center to open interdisciplinary hub for student researchers

Apoint of connection for staff, students and faculty in the areas of data science, artificial intelligence and digital humanities was the goal of the newly created Data Science and Application Center. Assistant Professor of Sociology Marshall Taylor founded the center to serve as a space for collaboration and consultation for researchers across NMSU—making the center an interdisciplinary resource for undergraduates, graduates, post-docs and faculty.

“Importantly, the center is interdisciplinary and therefore an intercollege effort—it is a space for students from HEST, Arts and Sciences, ACES and elsewhere,” Taylor says.

The center will be located inside Breland Hall, with computer workstations equipped with standard software for data science work, along with other statistical software. The room will offer a quality space for project brainstorming, and there are hopes to secure funding for larger projects and initiatives in the near future. The space will be open for the fall 2022 semester.
