Marlatt named permanent School of TPAL director

In January 2023, HEST Professor Rick Marlatt was named director of the School of Teacher Preparation, Administration and Leadership, after serving in an interim leadership role for TPAL since 2020.

TPAL houses the academic departments of Educational Leadership and Administration, Curriculum and Instruction, and Special Education, along with numerous sponsored projects and research and outreach units, including the New Mexico Teacher Pipeline Initiative, Educators Rising New Mexico and the Glass Family Research Institute for Early Childhood studies.

“I am honored to serve the School of TPAL and the College of HEST in this position, where I have the privilege of supporting amazing faculty, staff and students, and contributing to our land-grant, Hispanic-serving, minority-serving institutional mission by generating and sustaining a robust, diverse and culturally and linguistically responsive educator and educational leader pipeline for New Mexico,” Marlatt says.

Marlatt teaches and conducts research in language, literacy and culture, and has been a faculty member at NMSU since 2017.
