HEST welcomes new associate dean of research

Developing initiatives to best support HEST researchers' strengths, providing mentorship opportunities, and increasing grant applications and awards are some of the priorities of the new HEST associate dean of research.

Michael Hout began his new role in July 2024. Hout, a professor in psychology, has been at NMSU for 11 years working in various roles, including two years working with the National Science Foundation as a program director affiliated with NMSU. Throughout his time as a faculty member, Hout has led and worked on various research projects and labs.

Hout’s research priorities start with learning what is the best way to support HEST researchers.

“I want to learn more about the existing strengths in the college so we can do more of what HEST already excels at,” says Hout. “I want to learn about where HEST members need the most help and support.”

Hout also wants to prioritize more intangible matters, including celebrating the efforts and successes of researchers.
